What Is the Red Book?
Safety at Street Works and Road Works . A Code of Practice, commonly known within the industry as the Red Book, provides statutory guidance for the signing, lighting and guarding of street works and road works.
Its purpose is to help ensure that works on public roads are appropriately managed to protect workers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and other road users while helping minimise unnecessary disruption.
The Code applies to utility companies, highway or roads authorities and relevant contractors carrying out street and road works within its scope.
